Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

According to an article published by the Mayo Clinic very little is known about chronic fatigue syndrome and medically there is no known treatment for it except for pharmacological intervention to treat the symptoms.  The Mayo Clinic states on their website:

“Chronic fatigue syndrome is a complicated disorder characterized by extreme fatigue that can’t be explained by an underlying medical condition. The fatigue may worsen with physical or mental activity, but doesn’t improve with rest.  The cause of chronic fatigue syndrome is unknown, although there are many theories – ranging from viral infections to psychological stress. Some experts believe chronic fatigue syndrome might be triggered by a combination of factors.  There’s no single test to confirm a diagnosis of chronic fatigue syndrome. You may have to undergo a variety of medical tests to rule out other health problems that have similar symptoms. Treatment for chronic fatigue syndrome focuses on symptom relief.”

Dr. Martin Pall, Professor of Biochemistry at Washington State University, has done research into CFS (and other related conditions such as Lupus, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Fibromyalgia, Multiple Chemical Sensitivity, Rheumatoid Arthritis) which has shown a very clear relationship with lifestyle factors such as stress, toxins and dietary agents causing an abnormal biochemical positive feedback loop in the body which unless turned off will continue to make these conditions worsen and become chronic over time.

We believe the key to effectively treating any of these conditions is not to treat the symptoms of CFS (or Lupus, fibromyalgia etc) but to look towards improving the lifestyle habits that will enable the body to break the positive feedback loop by removing the lifestyle stressors which are driving the process and then support the body’s ability to begin the process of healing and repairing itself.  We do this while utilizing the RENEW program and making sure we have a properly functioning nervous system, that we are eating good foods and eliminating toxins, energizing the body and creating programs for our patients that they can follow for a lifetime of health and wellness free from these debilitating diseases.
